Avenue Montaigne, One Of The Most Luxurious Streets In Paris

Avenue Montaigne, connecting the Champs-Elysées to the Alma Bridge, is known as one of the most exclusive and luxurious arteries in the capital. The major haute-couture brands have chosen as home, such as Chanel, Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, Chloé, Céline, Thierry Mugler, Saint Laurent Paris, Prada, Gucci ... The view of the Eiffel Tower from the Place de l'Alma is spectacular.

Today, the large Dior fashion store is still there on the first floor of Dior Head office. Chanel and Vuitton too have stores in the avenue. Plaza Athénée, the exclusive five star hotel, one of the best in town, is located at 25. The Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, at 15, is the kingdom of classical music.

Avenue Montaigne was originally called the allee des Veuves (widows' alley) because women in mourning gathered there, but the street has changed much since those days of the early 18th century. The current name comes from Michel de Montaigne, a writer of the French Renaissance. In the nineteenth century, the street earned some renown for its sparkling and colorful Mabille balls on Saturday nights.

Styled in the manner of an elegant Parisian apartment, the Louis Vuitton store on avenue Montaigne is sleek and modern, and a less-busy alternative to the brand’s flagship store. With an in-house concierge and personalisation service, this is shopping at its finest.

Relax after a day of shopping and indulge in a cocktail or a spot of lunch at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée’s perennially chic venue La Terrasse Montaigne. Situated on the prestigious avenue Montaigne thoroughfare, the al fresco terrace is the ideal spot for watching some of Paris’s best-dressed residents pass by. Enjoy a glass of champagne – or two – and make the most of the menu of light, seasonal dishes.
